BQ25606: D+/D- connection with MCU and BQ25606

Part Number: BQ25606
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25890, BQ25601D

Hello expert,

My customer would like to know if they can connect D+/D- directly to USB connector, MCU and BQ25606. As I know, BQ25606 will handle BC1.2/apple/samsung mode handshaking and will not influence data communication after handshaking. May I know if you can provide reference circuit for us to let us know the placement/route for D+/D- connection? Thanks a lot!

Best regards,

Ann Lien

  • Ann,

D+/D- pins are used for USB input current limit detection when VBUS power is plugged in. During the charger input current limit detection process, the host must be able to HIZ D+/D- pins so that D+/D- pins are driven by the charger. If the host is unable to HIZ D+/D- pins, a USB switch is needed to isolate the host and the charger. Please refer to the BQ2589x EVM User’s guide at https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/sluuba2b/sluuba2b.pdf for sample circuitry.

    Thanks,

    Ning.

  • Hello Ning,

per checked, bq25890 use DSEL to indicate status for D+/D- handshaking. May I know if we would like to use TS3UCB221 for BQ25606 but there is no DSEL pin in BQ25606. What is our suggestion to customer for the selection signal? Thanks a lot!

    Best regards,

    Ann Lien

  • Ann,

BQ25606 is a standalone charger without DSEL pin. There's no simple way to implement USB switch. Since MCU is available, it is better to use I2C controlled charger such as BQ25601D. The PG_STAT bit indicates the completion of the input source type detection.

    Thanks,

    Ning.
