BQ24074: Without Battery Circuit Was Restart After Sometime

Part Number: BQ24074

Hello Team,

We are use BQ24074 in our VTS project. Problem was after giving input supply to circuit the our device was restart after some time if battery was not connected. If we connect battery device was working fine. Please find the attached snaps of our schematic. Please give us proper solution.

  • Hi Somanth,

    Welcome to E2E!

Do you know the expected current draw of the system at the OUT pin of the BQ24074? If you have too high of a current draw, this can cause the output to fall. The battery would be able to supplement the current draw and is why you have no issues when the battery is connected. We can check this if you have a waveform at the out put voltage.

Looking at your schematic, there are a few comments I have:

    • What is the reason for R14 and R15?
    • It is recommended to have capacitors at the BAT (4.7uF to 47uF) and OUT (4.7uF to 47uF) pins.

Can you also verify the following settings:

    • Termination Current = 30 mA
    • Fast Charge Current = 800 mA
    • Pre-Charge Current = 80 mA
    • Input Current Limit = 1.34 A

  • Hello Sir,

    Thanks for Your Reply,

The R14 and R15 used in Compactor circuit. and already removed from updated circuit.

Mainly we wast to interface with Quectels GSM and GPS Module. It required more current at the time of SIM registration and while connecting to Server.

Can you provide us any reference circuit for below requirement.

    1. Input Voltage: 5V

    2. Output Voltage: 4.2V

    3. Output current: upto 1.5A

    4. Battery Rating: 3.7V/2A

  • HI Somanath,

Based on my previous calculations, you'll need to increase the input current limit to handle your output current. It is also recommended to have the capacitors at locations I've previously mentioned.
