BQ25710: Questions of BQ25710 when used on a bad battery

Part Number: BQ25710

Hi Team:

There is laptop application question when used with a bad battery as for BQ25710, could you help to give your comments, thanks!

 > The battery is a bad one(output voltage is 0V), so the function of charging and discharging function are disabled, but I2C communication is ok.

The CELL BATPRESZ is 4.5V, 4cells , then EC can not detect the battery voltage, so EC write Regs of  Charger Regs 14h/15h/3Eh as 0A/8.8V/5.9V, but when measure the VSYS and BFET at this stage, just find  VSYS is 5.9V, BFET is off.

Question 1 is :Why this stage VSYS is 5.9V instead of 8.8V?

Question 1 is :Does VSYS  drop to 0V because of VSYS voltage 5.9V (2cell value) not matching CELL_BATPRESZ(4cell config)?

  • Hi, Richard,

    1. The system is defined to regulate at min system voltage when the battery is bad or depleted.

    2. Vsys won't drop to zero but regulate at min system voltage set by register 15h. The default min system is 12.288V but can be overwritten by EC.
