BQ27510: How do connect the Gauge Meter with the Battery charger BQ25601DRTWR

Hello,

I need to connect the battery charger and the battery gauge to the same temperature sensor output of the battery. Nevertheless I see that they use a voltage divider and I would like to know if they may interfere with each other.

Hi Ronald,

In most cases this cannot be done, you will need to choose whether the NTC goes to gauge or charger.

Also note the gauge has an internal temp sensor that can be used.

Thank you Nick, so can I use the Gauge without connecting TS from the integrated battery sensor? I just want to get the remaining charge.

Hi Ronald,

Yes, as long as the gauge is fairly close in proximity to the battery this will be ok. Another option would be to have two thermistor coming from pack.

Is it good to have the IC right next to the battery? or do you think it will be better to be underneath the battery (the battery sits on top of the PCB, I could try to place the IC on the bottom layer).

Hi Ronald,

The gauge uses the battery temperature for many of its calculations so if you use the internal temp sensor it is best for the IC to be as close as possible to battery. This is one of the benefits of packside gauges as the IC is directly attached to the battery.

Hi Ronald,

This should be fine, but you may want to check to see how close the internal temp sensor is compared to the pack thermistor. There is no exact requirement but within +/- 5 deg C should be ok.
