BQ76920: Boot and Reboot

Part Number: BQ76920

I will be using a micro to control the BQ76920.  The Micro will have its own power supply. The Micro will initially signal the Boot pin on the BQ76920 at system start up.  In the application, the system will never power down the BQ76920.  Based on this, should there ever be a scenario that requires the Bq76920 to be rebooted?

  • Hi FJ,

Normally no, but you will know your system conditions better than others.  It is generally good for your system to be able to recover from unexpected situations if it is suitable.  If the system loads the cells to where the BQ76920 has a VSHUT condition and turns off, you may want your host to reboot the BQ76920 and resume operation.  If the host knows the cells have been sitting at a low voltage for a long time, it may know not to reboot the BQ76920.
