BQ24295: Vsys maximum current in supplement mode

Part Number: BQ24295

Hi

- Our Battery is current protected to 3.1A

- Our supply is limited to 5V, 2.4A and the BQ24295 will be configured accordingly,

In supplement mode, what would be the maximum current on VSYS?

We need this value to figure our the power supply class for IEC62368.

  • Hi,

Referring to 7.3 Recommended Operating Conditions on the d/s, the battery discharging current with internal MOSFET should not exceed 5.5A.

    Thanks,

    Ning.

  • Sorry, but does that not really answer the question,

The battery mosfet will not exceed 3.1A since the battery protection will cut the battery power.

In the example above, the evaluator will simulate single fault and look at the available power.  I'm not sure I understand the supplement mode enough to figure out what will be the maximum power available at VSYS.

I guess I will be better to try it with an eval board.

  • Hi,

Please note that when valid VBUS and VBAT are present, both may supply power to VSYS. Please refer to 8.3.2.2 Dynamic Power Management on the d/s for the details.

The charger has various operation modes. It is highly recommended to get familiar with the charger operations by testing the device EVM before making customized designs.

    Thanks,

    Ning.
