LM51551: Switching frequency below 100kHz

Part Number: LM51551
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5155

Hi team,

My customer considers to use LM51551 as flyback topology since it has wide input voltage(application Vinmax=48V), integrated FET and hiccup mode.

But he wants to operate it with 85kHz~100kHz switching frequency.

Is LM51551 able to operate with above frequency?

Please note that the customer doesn't want warranty for above operation.

Or is there any other cost effective alternative device?

Best regards,

Shota Mago

  • Hi Shota-san,

Thank you for considering the LM5155. According to datasheet, the recommended min frequency is 100kHz, therefore, we do not recommend to operate below 100kHz.

In today's technology, 100kHz is already too slow. You may find switching ~200kHz may bring the best tradeoff among solution size, efficiency, and cost.

    Thanks,
