BQ77905: Does connecting a charger reset the UV when load removal recovery mode is used?

Part Number: BQ77905

Dear TI team,

I would like to know, whether connection of a charger resets the UV lockout, when load removal recovery mode is used.

What I'd like to achieve is when the battery is discharged below the UV level, it gets disconnected from the load, but while the load is still attached, it should be reset by connecting a charger (reversing the current flow). Is this in some way possible to easily achieve?

Using the UV with hysteresis has an annoying quirk that upon discharging the battery, load gets connected and disconnected couple times as the voltage on the cells recovers when load is disconnected. I'd like to get reset not upon load removal, but charger connection.

Thank you for any hints and help with this.

Best regards,

Jan

  • Hi Jan,

Yes, the UV recovery with load removal is intended to avoid the FET toggle you describe from only hysteresis.  When the load remains present the LD is held above its threshold and it does not recover.  When a charger is applied to force the voltage back to normal it will drive LD below the threshold and the pack recovers.
