TL431: R2 vs Iref, II(dev)

Part Number: TL431

Dear TI Team

I have a question about Iref, II (dev) of TL431I.
When the electrical characteristics are confirmed, the values under the condition of R2 = ∞ in Figure.21 are shown.
For example, does the typ and max values of Iref and II (dev) described in the data sheet change when the value of R2 is changed?

If it changes, I would like the data of the characteristic diagram of R2 vs Iref, II (dev). Do you have it?

Best Regards,

Y.Ottey

  • Hi Y.ottey

The purpose of having R2 = Infinity is to have no gain on the VKA of the TL431. It also makes testing easier because it is possible to calculate IREF based off of the voltage on R1.

So the question I assume is, does gain on the TL431 change the reference current consumption. This is not a test we have performed. From my experience with this device, the IREF does not or the change is very minor that the performance of the device is not impacted in the setup of fig 21.

If you have any more questions. feel free to ask.
