BQ24155: Reduce battery discharge current when VBUS is disconnected

Part Number: BQ24155

Hi,

According to the datasheet, battery discharge current in high impedance mode could be up to 20uA.

My goal is to reduce this current to less than 1uA. I don't need charger functionality at high impedance mode, so it would be nice to switch off the charger.

I noticed, if AUXPWR left floating, the charger does not reach maximum power, and sometimes the charger doesn't work at all. So, I put a key to connect it to VBAT in VBUS connected case.

Could you check, if I did it correctly, and it reliable path to achieve my goal? Thanks!

  • Hi Damir,

That is a very clever way to reduce Iq.  We usually suggest placing a series FET between CSOUT and the battery.

I checked with the designer and he thinks this should work but wanted me to remind you that the IC is no longer powered so you cannot communicate with it again until VBUS is reattached.  That means that all I2C registers will be reset to default and will be to be rewritten at each VBUS plug in.

    Regards,

    Jeff
