UCC28070: Use UCC28070 with DC input

Part Number: UCC28070
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC28063

Hello
When I searched in the forum, many answered that UCC28070 cannot be used with DC input, but the following question says that DC input is possible.
Is it possible to use it with a DC input under certain conditions?

e2e.ti.com/.../1789446

DC input conditions I'm designing
Input: DC75-100V
Output: 300V
Electric power: 3kW

Another question
UCC28063 seems to be capable of DC input, but even in that case, is it possible to operate in current critical mode and in continuous current mode?

Kind regards,

  • Hi Kanon,

Do you expect to have input voltage transients in your application? This is the danger of using UCC28070 with a DC input. What John Griffin is saying is that if the input voltage range is narrow and you do not expect to have input voltage transients in your application then UCC28070 would be ok.

UCC28063 is capable of DC input. It is only a transition mode (critical conduction mode) PFC however. It does not possess the functionality to support continuous conduction mode.

    Best Regards,

    Ben Lough
