BQ27Z561: Chip Enable and I2C communication

Part Number: BQ27Z561
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: EV2400

Hi Gauges Team,

I have two questions about the BQ27Z561's CE functionality:

1. When I pull the CE line low, can I still communicate with the gauge via I2C?

2. Can the CE line status be overwritten when using something like the EV2400?

Thanks,

Mitchell

  • Hello Mitchell,

The gauge will shutdown both oscillators when the CE is driven low, it will not be able to communicate.

Can you clarify your second question?

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller

  • Hi Wyatt,

Thanks for such a quick response!

I thought so too on the CE pin shutting the system down, but my customer claims that they are still able to query the BQ27Z561 when CE is low.

I think this behavior is prompting the second question I had posed. What I meant by that question: Does the EV2400 have the ability to override the CE status when it is connected therefore allowing the chip to stay out of "Off" mode even with the CE pulled low?

I'm still waiting on a block diagram or schematic to help clarify this.

    Thanks,

    Mitchell

  • Hello Mitchell,

That should not be possible, the CE pin disables the internal LDO. They must be powering the CE pin inadvertently.

We would need to see the schematic to know for sure what's going on, but if CE is low the gauge will not respond.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller
