TPS2376: TPS2376 ILIM resistor value

Part Number: TPS2376

Dear Sir or Madam,

I would like to ask about the ILIM resistor functionality.
How does it affect the operation if the value is around 100Ohm due to a manufacturing defect?
Does it causes a short circuit on the power line or just blocking the functionality?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Best regards,

Szabolcs

  • Hello Szabolcs,

The ILIM resistor sets the current limit during the In-rush phase. The range is 62.5K to 500K.

A 100ohm resistor would effectively not limit the in-rush, causing a current spike. The PSE may shutoff power if the in-rush current limit is too high - it might depend on the PSE. But either way there would be a big current spike.

From Equation 1 in the datasheet: Ilim = 2500/Rlim = 2.5A - which would break the internal Pass FET.
