TPS552882: Anomaly Quiescent current for tps552882

Part Number: TPS552882

HI , i selected  tps552882 chip and designed a circuit throught  WEBBENCH tools.

Application:Solar energy storage battery power supply system

VIN:10-28V

Vout :12V@6A max。

2 Layer pcb design.

This is already the second PCB I have designed.

Now the question is。Input voltage :10-15V,IC enabled , out voltage: 12V,  no load.

The input can detect a quiescent current of 15 - 35 mA.

May I ask whether the quiescent power consumption of this part is normal? What causes this? How to solve it?  thanks.

  • Hello user6538348,

You schematic shows that you connect the MODE pin to GND. According to table 7-2 in the datasheet, this means that the device is in PWM mode operation and therefore it is switching permanently. This current consumption is ok for a permanently switching device as there are losses in the transistors and inductor due to this switching activity.

If you want to operate the part in the low power mode, you need to apply a 24.9 kohm resistor to this pin.
