Customer asked how to test bq2970 OCP and test condition?
Would you pls help for sharing?
Thanks, Ian.

Hi Ian,
For the BQ2970 device the overcharge current protection OCP or charge overcurrent detection can be tested as described in the data sheet section 8.2 https://www.ti.com/document-viewer/BQ2970/datasheet/test-circuits-slusbu95242#SLUSBU95242 item 18 using circuit 5 in https://www.ti.com/document-viewer/BQ2970/datasheet/test-circuit-diagrams-slusbu95215#SLUSBU95215
In practice with a board assembly you may need to provide power to the battery side through a resistor and connect an electronic load set to limit the voltage either at a slight higher or lower voltage than the supply depending on how much current you want to allow in the resistor. Then apply a high current/voltage charger on the PACK side to force current through the circuit into the load causing the threshold to trip. You may have 2 passes, one increasing current slowly to find the threshold, another applying a step above the threshold to check the response time.
Hope this helps.
