TPL7407LA: ESD protection

Part Number: TPL7407LA

Hi team,

My customer is evaluating the TPL7407LAD. Could you please advise to the question below?

During ESD testing, when static electricity is applied to the GND plane, overcurrent or overvoltage may be applied through the GND of the TPL7407LA, which may cause damage to the TPL7407LA.

In such a case, is there a good countermeasure to prevent the device from being damaged?
In the device specifications, are there any specifications for the current or voltage coming in through the GND?

Regards,

Yamaguchi

  • Yamaguchi-san,

We do not spec the ESD compliance of this device in any other way apart from its HBM and CDM state on the datasheet.

All testing and characterization of this device is done with respect to GND. The absolute minimum voltage that the GND pin can handle is -0.3V. Any voltages lower than this will cause the internal ESD cells to be biased incorrectly and may cause damage to the device.  We do not spec current going into the GND pin.

To keep this voltage in working range, I would recommend using a fast turn on, low forward voltage Schottky diode that limits the voltage dip on the GND pin. We do not have any specific recommendation for a diode here.
