TPS2595: how is it different with and without "QUICK OUTPUT DISCHARGE" function?

Part Number: TPS2595

Hi Team

I want to confirm about "QUICK OUTPUT DISCHARGE" function.

Because only TPS2595x5 have this function, could you tell me how is it different with and without this function?

Does it means if we don't use this function, output voltage may be any value after efuse is turned off?

In other word, we need "QUICK OUTPUT DISCHARGE" function If we want to ensure output voltage to be 0V after efuse is turned off? Or output voltage will still go to 0V but only takes longer time?

And will customer need this function if they use TPS2595 for USB 3.0 Type-C circuit?

Thanks.

Regards,

Jo

  • Hi Jo,

QOD feature can be used when you have high value cap at output and suppose you remove input supply or decrease input voltage or due to any other protection feature efuse turns of . Generally without QOD output cap will discharge slowly and will discharge completely after some time.

Some applications require the output capacitor to be discharged quickly when the eFuse is turned off. This prevents any unpredictable behavior from the downstream devices compared to when the capacitor discharges slowly.

This feature can help in reducing reverse current flow  when input voltage drops to very low level but output is still charged.
