TPS53681: Application problem

Part Number: TPS53681

What are the specific functions of VR_HOT and SMB_ALERT?

  • VR HOT# is an open drain which alerts whenever the sensed temperature value exceeds the programmed TMAX value from MFR_SPECIFIC_12. VRHOT# is a warning condition only, and different from over-temperature protection. The concept here is to alert the system to throttle/reduce power before overheating and requiring a shutdown. It clears automatically when the temperature is lowered.

SMBALERT# is an open drain which alerts whenever a status bit in the STATUS_x registers is set. It is meant to trigger the system host to read the status bits figure out further action. It can set for faults (shutdown) or warnings (just status bits), and can be masked with the SMBALERT MASK commands. It can be cleared using the CLEAR_FAULT PMBus command.
