TPS24741: reverse current threshold

Part Number: TPS24741

Hi team,

  1. How to understand the reverse comparator offset of TPS24741?
  2. Why setting a very low reverse voltage setting can result in some boards to trip at positive current? The reverse voltage threshold must beyond 1mV (reverse comparator offset)?
  3. My customer want to set a low threshold, because if setting 1mV threshold, the reverse current could be 8A (1mV/0.125mohm), 8A is too large. What's the bad impacts if they set a low threshold like 0.3mV?

  • Hi Miranda,

Thanks for reaching out to us. We are looking into the query and will get back to you by end of the day today (IST).

  • Hi Miranda,

    1) How to understand the reverse comparator offset of TPS24741? The reverse comparator offset (±1mV) is internal to the device. It’s considered in the calculations of minimum and maximum reverse current trip thresholds.

    2) Why setting a very low reverse voltage setting can result in some boards to trip at positive current? The reverse voltage threshold must beyond 1mV (reverse comparator offset)? It’s because of the reverse comparator offset of ±1mV. A design case study is attached for reference. .

    3) My customer wants to set a low threshold, because if setting 1mV threshold, the reverse current could be 8A (1mV/0.125mohm), 8A is too large. What's the bad impacts if they set a low threshold like 0.3mV? Higher reverse current trip threshold is unavoidable using TPS2474x device otherwise it may get tripped at lower positive current from input to output. According to the customer’s requirement, liner oring solution is recommended, e.g. an ideal diode controller (LM74700) followed by a hot swap controller (TPS2477x). It’s equivalent to TPS2474x. Please share the system specification of the customer to provide the detail solution with comparative.
