BQ25611D: How to set the charge current to 1A with an external DC source

Part Number: BQ25611D

Hi  expert,

My customer try to use a external DC source as a charging input( not a adapter) 5V3A, they want to know how to limite the charging current to 1A. according to datasheet , I think the first step  is limiting input current to 2A or 1A by setting D+ D- to below threshold. then use I2C to set the Charge Current Limit register(REG02) . is this a right approach? I don't have a EVM board on hand yet.  BTW, What's the sugguestion how to set D+ D- Threshold? is there a recommended circuit?  thanks.

  • Yue,

Your approach of setting a voltage to force a non-standard adapter detection will work. Alternatively, you could just float D+ and D- to detect an unknown adapter and then modify IINDPM through the register.

As for a circuit for implementing the Non-Standard adapter detection, a simple resistor divider would suffice if no data transfer is necessary.

    Best Regards,
