TPS50601A-SP: SYNC signal applied while chip is unpowered

Part Number: TPS50601A-SP

Is it ok to have a 0 - 5V sync signal applied prior to the Vin / Pvin 5V supply?

It appears this is ok based on the ABS max tables but I measure ~ 8mA into the SYNC pin when I try this on the bench with the EVM (Vin/Pvin are grounded, it's about the same when they are open - they float to ~ 0.5V )

If this is ok, would you recommend a series resistor from the 5V sync source?
