TPS25982: Can TPS25982 do a Oring function?

Part Number: TPS25982
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS25947

Hi,

1) Can TPS25982 do a Oring function?

2) If not, do you have any recommendation that can do the Oring function? Volt is 12V, current is 8A.

3) And is there a way to distinguish which sockets can do the Oring function and which can't?

4) Can both E-fuse and Hot swap units work as a Oring?

Thanks.

  • Hi Mason,

    Thanks for reaching out.

1.One major  requirement for Oring is that the device should be able to prevent reverse current flow. Suppose there are two supplies V1 and V2 being Ored,V1>V2. So output would be at V1 . So this will cause  a reverse current to flow from VOUT to V2 as VOUT=V1>V2. TPS25982 can be used for oring because it has low voltage drop but it does not prevent reverse  current flow.

    2. Our new efuse device tps25947 is designed for Oring functionality and provides reverse current blocking. www.ti.com/.../TPS25947

3.In power switches portfolio we have ideal diode controllers specially designed for oring applications. Please read this app note for more details:

    4. Yes you can use efuse and hotswap devices that provide reverse current blocking feature  for oring .
