BQ24725: Companion Fuel Gauge for BQ24725

Part Number: BQ24725
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ4050

Could you also recommend a companion fuel gauge for the BQ24725?

I was looking at the BQ4050, as it was the lowest cost option, but both the BQ24725 and BQ4050 add double FETs to the power path, and that seems redundant. Is there a fuel gauge that is recommended for use with the BQ24725, and would have fewer components?

  • Hi,

There are many possible battery gauges that can be used together with the BQ24725. To get started, I suggest going to the TI battery gauge page below and inputting your design parameters, such as the number of series cells and the communication interface. This will show you a list of all the TI gauges which can meet your requirements:

Once you have a rough idea, can you please create a new E2E thread with one of the gauge part numbers in the title? This will ensure that the gauge team can provide the best part recommendations and support any further questions.

Regarding the double FETs in the power path, I believe you are referring to ACFET/RBFET for the BQ24725, and the CHG/DSG FETs for the BQ4050. The ACFET/RBFET controlled by the BQ24725 serve to separate the adapter from the battery or system and provide reverse input voltage protection (see the System Power Selection section in the datasheet for more details). This is a different function from the CHG/DSG FETs used by the BQ4050. The gauge team will be able to provide recommendations for the most integrated battery gauge solution.

    Best regards,

    Angelo
