BQ40Z50-R2: Getting instantaneous current reading

Part Number: BQ40Z50-R2
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO,

Using BQstudio to obtain the current reading (Command 0x0A), the plot below was obtained.

It looks like the current reading is an average of 5 readings, instead of instantaneous current. (It took 1.25sec, which is 5 times of sampling period of 250msec)

How can we obtain instantaneous current reading from BQ40Z50-R2?

  • Hello Eddie,

Were you able to verify the instantaneous current with another means as well? Our gauges use a delta-sigma ADC which takes many samples of the sample period so it can't do a true instantaneous value, but it should be able to adjust quicker than the graph if the load was a step response.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller
