LMR36015: Input capacitor

Part Number: LMR36015

Hello,

I am using a 12V to 25V external DC adapter for my application and this is converted to 3.3V using LMR36015.

Is it recommended to use an electrolytic input & output capacitor for the buck converter? or Is SMD 0805 X7R ceramic capacitor fine?

Thanks in advance

  • Hi,

For output cap, the output capacitor and ESR should be adjusted according to equation (6) and (7) to meet both the load transient and output ripple requirements. And a small ceramic should be placed on the output to help reduce high frequency noise.

For input cap, it is often desirable to use an electrolytic capacitor on the input in parallel with the ceramic capacitors. This is especially true if long leads/traces are used to connect the input supply to the regulator.

More details can be referred to 10.2.1.2.5 and 10.2.1.2.6.

    Best regards
