BQ25895: Contradictory Documentation for EN_TIMER

Part Number: BQ25895

The prose for EN_TIMER says that it should be SET to disable the Charging Safety Timer. However the Table for Reg07 says to CLEAR the bit to disable the safety timer, which is it?

Related, it appears that my system is rebooting after 10 hours or so of runtime. In my application the battery NEVER fully charges but operates in a 70 to 80% relative state of charge range for it's lifetime. Is there anything I should do to keep my system up 24/7 while in this "never getting to full charge" mode of operation?.

  • Hi,

Referring to page 39 on the d/s, for EN_TIMER, 0- disable timer, 1 - enable timer (default)

Referring to 8.2.7.6 Charging Safety Timer on the d/s, During input voltage, current or thermal regulation, the safety timer counts at half clock rate as the actual charge current is likely to be below the register setting. Please check if these conditions happened during charging. Please refer to 8.2.6.2 Dynamic Power Management and 8.2.13 Thermal Regulation and Thermal Shutdown on the d/s for the details.

    Thanks,

    Ning.

  • page 24: “The safety timer feature can be disabled via I2C by setting EN_TIMER bit.“

One of the two pages we’re talking about is incorrect. I need TI to identify which page 24 or 39 is wrong.

  • Hi,

Page 39 is correct. Page 24 will be updated in the next revision of the d/s.

    Thanks,

    Ning.
