TPS65911: use of 5V for Vin for external FETs

Part Number: TPS65911
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CSD87330Q3D, EVMK2GX, 66AK2G12,

Hello,
customer is in a design with the 66AK2G12. They want to use the TPS65911A to power it. They have a question regarding powering the external FETs for VDDCtrl SMPS. They have 5V supply availability so we want to give 5V supply (which is same as VCC supply & V5IN) to the external FETs instead of 12V (which is used in the 66AK2G12 EVM EVMK2GX). Is there any issue if they use 5V supply for CSD87330Q3D FETs instead of 12V to drive CVDD?

Regards, Holger

  • Hi Holger,

This thread has been assigned to the expert for this part, but I will help out by adding the below information.

In section 5.16 of the TPS65911 datasheet it mentions that the input supply for VDDCtrl should be between 3V and 25V. Given this I do not see an issue in using a 5V supply instead of 12V.

    Best regards,
