TPS65950: BKBAT - wrong polarity

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65950

Hi,

in the datasheet of the TPS65950, the recommended operating maximum
ratings of "BKBAT" are min 1,8V and max 3,3V.
If a user insert the backup-battery wrong, the voltage at BKBAT is -3,0V.
Will this negative voltage destroy the IC or is a protection circuit inside?
(In my schematic a 1k-resistor is in series to the battery)

Regards,
Daniel

  • Hi,

I dont know how this can happen. Generally on a system the backup battery is installed when the product is manufactured so there is no chance that someone will connect it incorrectly. What is your application and why do you think this will happen?

The IC may not be be destroyed, but I certainly will recommend to avoid this situation. This operation will be out of the device specs and we cannot guarantee proper operation and side effects (if any).
