TPS5450: Variable output

Genius 9880 points
Part Number: TPS5450
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS54561, TPS54560B

Hi Team,

Good day.

Customer want to confirm the following.

1. In the photo customer want to control the output voltage by adding a digital potentiometer in place of R2 (want to control the output voltage from 5V To 15V). Is this possible for the design in  the datasheet without changing other external components? According to them, values of the inductors and capacitors changes when tried using the the webench

2. Customer also want to use 24 Voltage as an input voltage and 4-5 Amperes as output current

Thank you.

Regards,

Maynard

  • Hi,

Instead of changing the value of R2, you may want to keep R1 and R2 for a starting point for output voltage for example set R1 and R2 to be 15V output and attached the digital potentiometer across R2 to control the output voltage. This way if the potentiometer output is not defined, at least your output voltage will be defined.

Since this is a voltage mode control part, it may be tricky to compensate with the range of output voltage that you have.

I would option into TPS54560B or TPS54561 which is a current mode control part and with adjustable compensation.

For the part above, i would choose inductor for 10V output and the output capacitor for the 5V output from the webench design.
