BQ3050: CHG and DSCHG mosfets Off

Part Number: BQ3050

Hello,

Although this BQ3050 4S6P LiFePO4 gas gauge is in full access, both charge and discharge fets are off.

I've been trying to force them "ON" by sending a write 0x0006 at address 0x46, but nothing happens.
I've been performing same action on another battery of same kind, and indeed the GG responds and toggles both CHG and DISCHG mosfets (ON=write 0x0006, OFF=write 0x0000).
Am I missing something? Do I have to send a special manufacturer access command before trying to write at address 0x46?

Or is it more likely the chip is out of order?

Please let me know.

Thanks for your help.

Matt

  • Hi Matthieu,

Can you probe CHG and DSG pins when you send the commands to see if they are changing? You might need to check the FUSE pin, it needs to be connected to ground if not used in order to turn on the FETs.

    Best Regards,

    Abraham

  • Hello Abraham,

    Thank you for your answer.
Yes, Fuse Pin is grounded, and nope, no 'High" voltage on pins CHG and DSCHG (Vgate should be at least 6V higher than Vsource).

Either the charge pump is dead, either the command has no action.
I think the chip is burned.
    Thanks anyway.
    Best Regards.
    Matthieu.
