Hi,

I just want to share this finding about the bricking issue on BQ34z100. We were using BQ34z100 in our custom board and have had a set of settings in DFFS file where it works fine but once it is programmed onto a custom board it bricked the chip immediately and rendered it useless.

The root cause was because the EV kit for that fuel gauge has got the LED display and enabled in the EV kits. However if a FS file with LED COMM Configuration is programmed to non 0 and without LED display connected to the fuel gauge it does brick the chip immediately.

This took us a long time and many bricked chips to find this out and would have been very useful if TI could have clearly point this out in the datasheet. It is NOT MENTIONED anywhere at all in the relevant datasheet or application note.

Hope this info is helpful for anyone that experienced the grief of unexplained bricking of the chip.
