BQ4050: cannot wake up after discharged completely

Hello TI experts,

My customer is testing with BQ4050 for their new product, and they have some problems.

they cannot charge the battery pack after discharged completely, even though they connect the charger. I think the battery don't wake up.

and after they execute the bqstudio and toggle the charge FET, the charging starts normally.

I attach the schematic for your convenience;

is there anything wrong with the schematic or do I have to change some values on the settings?

Hello Chase,

Can you share the .gg file and a log of the test if possible? Make sure lifetime data logging is enabled for the test.

They may be triggering one of the protections that will prevent charge/discharge from occurring. They can test this by disabling any of the protections and running the test again.

In this GG file the enable bits [Gauging, Fets, Lifetime, ect...] are not enabled. This means the gauge will do minimal actions. The main enable needed is the FETS because this will allow the gauge to control the FET behavior. the command you want to use is MAC command 0x0022

When you say "Toggle the CHG Fet" this should not be done by the host. The gauge will auto enable the FETS when it is safe to do so.

These are not enable bits but instead they are MAC commands.

IT_ENABLE = 0x0021

FET_Enable = 0x0022

Lifetime_Enable = 0x0023

They will update the datamemory [Mfg Status INIT].

You mean that we have to enter 3 commands with connected to PC every time?

what if the customer have this situation in the field? i think they cannot enter the command in the field.

I have to guide something instead.

No these commands are needed 1 time after production. Once enabled the gauge will control the FET behavior based on the config.
