EV2400: Power management forum

Part Number: EV2400
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQEVSW

I currently use the HDQ port and I need one of the other ports to provide the same output for a different fixture. I purchased an EV2400 board and have been using it for a spell, however I have another fixture I want to add to the process and was wondering if I can use the same board but different output to run the new fixture in concert with the other one? Not an issue if I have to unplug one and plug in the other.

Right now I can unplug the current fixture and use the same port and it works fine, however I'm thinking the other port needs a file to work in concert with the HDQ?

I understand that I am able to use the board and a different port to get the readings, however is there a different program I need to run because the board don't recognize the other port being used. Please advise.

Here is the current set up file being used by the HDQ port # 3

* The AutoCycle option in bqEVSW (bq20zXX) requires additional hardware. *

AutoCycle can be operated in 2 modes:
- Autocycle without Relaxation times - 1 output pin
- Autocycle with Relaxation times - 2 output pins

The "Keep Scanning" option must be selected for proper Autocycle operation.
Battery status is determined on every scan and initiates autocycle events.

When 2 output pins are used the pins are defined as follows
- I2C-VOUT controls the load
- I2C-SDA (or HDQ ) controls the load

The HDQ pin is used instead of I2C-SDA when I2C-SDA is used for communication
with the gas gauge. The "Autocycle" menu has a "2 pins" submenu that shows exactly
which pin us used to control the Charger for the currently selected target.

Autocycle without Relaxation times - 1 output pin
**************************************************

Hardware Setup:
The EV2300 I2C-VOUT (E2-VCC) terminal should be connected to a transistor/FET switch
or relay which will connect your load to the battery pack when the signal is HIGH (+5V).
Your charger should be connected to the battery pack when the signal is LOW (0V).

The connected hardware ideally draws less than 50ma from the I2C-VOUT pin at 5V.
Max current: Current that will cause damage = 500mA

Software Setup:
On the AutoCycle Options windows, set the Relaxation time to zero(0) minutes.
Any value other than zero will cause unpredictable behaviour.

Autocycle with Relaxation times - 2 output pins
**************************************************

Hardware Setup:

The EV2300 I2C-VOUT (E2-VCC) terminal should be connected to a transistor/FET switch
or relay which will connect your load to the battery pack when the signal is HIGH (+5V).
The load must be disconnected when the I2C-VOUT terminal goes LOW (0V).

The EV2300 I2C-SDA (or HDQ) terminal should be connected to a transistor/FET switch or relay
which will connect your charger to the battery pack when the signal is HIGH (+5V).
The charger must be disconnected when the I2C-SDA (or HDQ) terminal goes LOW (0V).

The I2C-VOUT pin will supply 5V, the connected hardware should not draw more than 50mA.

The I2C-SDA (or HDQ) pin must be pulled up externally.
Max pullup voltage = 6V
Recommended sink current < 5mA
Max current: Current that will cause damage = 40mA (Linear regulator will begin to drop out)

Software Setup:
All functionality on the AutoCycle window is available for use.

Relaxation:
The battery pack will be relaxed(not charging and not discharging) for the amount
of time specified on the AutoCycle window. This time is specified in minutes.

When using the relaxation feature, Autocycle will remember that the pack is being
relaxed even after it is stopped and keep track of elapsed time.
To force Autocycle to start afresh, please manually change the state of at least 1 pin.
If before starting Autocycle both pins are low, then the previous relaxation period
is assumed to be valid and Autocycle will continue to relax till that period has elapsed.
Restart the EVSW to force Autocycle to reset.
