MC33063A / MC34063A Inverter

I'm trying to use the MM34063A as an inverter.

Can anyone tell me the reason for the 4.5 to 6.0V input range?  Page 10 of the datasheet have formulas for component value selection, but I don't see anything about working out input voltage range.

Thanks!

  • Hello Charles,

For this design, having VIN greater than 6V will cause the inductor current to exceed the current limit level set by the resistor Rsc.
Apparently the designer did not want the circuit to operate in current limited mode.
Nevertheless, the circuit will operate above 6V. When in current limit, ,the Ton period will be reduced.

I suggest using the formulas twice. Once with minimum VIN and again with maximum VIN.
