BQ78350-R2-DEVICE-FW:Power management forum

Part Number: BQ78350-R2-DEVICE-FW

Good day. I have a problem with the training cycle. After the first charge of the battery with 4 cells, my capacity is calculated, but after a while when I put it on the discharge, all data is reset and the battery is discharged without controlling its capacity. I have run several cycles on different controllers and all 3 are not working properly. Please provide a more detailed algorithm for creating a new battery with new chemicals. When you change the chemistry, nothing changes in the protection settings, so it should be whether it is a malfunction of the controller. The settings of the protection thresholds do not change after the change of chemistry and other settings remain the basic factory. With the basic settings, the battery worked correctly and went through the learning process. also after charging the charging indication diodes do not turn off when the recharge threshold is triggered, but remain in the state of charge indication. are switched off only at connection of loading, then the value of capacity is zeroed. Please help.

  • Hi,

I'm not sure I understand completely. Are you collecting data for the ChemID? And you say you are using 3 different controllers - can you help me understand this? Which controllers are you using?

If you think there is a malfunction of the controller, it is best to examine the log file from BQStudio to understand what exactly is occurring since it shows all of the status registers for the device.

We will need much more detail to help debug this. It is not really clear what device or hardware you are using.

    Thanks and best regards,

    Matt

  • I use BQ78350 R2 + BQ 76920 soldered on 3 different boards. I need a battery with 4S LFEPO4. What changes in the settings when the chemistry changes? During the training cycle after the first charge, the values of the battery capacity appear, but they are reset after the start of the discharge, and so each time.

I can't find an algorithm to create a new battery.

  • Another question is how to reset to factory settings, if the training cycle is unsuccessful, where to find the factory firmware, how to reset the number of cycles? I will be grateful for the help, I really want to understand these chips, maybe there are some blanks or firmware for 4s LIFEPO4 5000-6000 Ah.

  • Hi,

The factory firmware is available in the BQ78350-R2 firmware folder: https://www.ti.com/tool/BQ78350-R2-DEVICE-FW

Although, you must have loaded the factory firmware to the device at some point because the R2 firmware does not come pre-programmed on any device. You can write this to the device using the BQStudio Firmware screen.

For the device chemistry update, you need to follow the steps in the Gas Gauging section of the Using the BQ78350-R1 app report: https://www.ti.com/lit/an/slua924/slua924.pdf

This gives instructions for selecting the ChemID (which is used to estimate SOC after a reset) and for finding the CEDV coefficients. You will also want to select the desired protection thresholds for your specific battery.

    Best regards,

    Matt
