TPS793: pull-up at 12V at the input?

Part Number: TPS793

Hi,

I would like to know if we can connect a 10K pull-up powered at 12V at the input of the TPS79333DBVRQ1 or TPS79333DBVRG4? The situation may happens when all my surrounding circuit is unpowered.

Since the current that can pass through the LDO's input or output would be limited by the 10K resistor, is-it still possible to damage the LDO itself (ABS max is below 6V for both in and out sides)?

Thanks,
Denis Alain, Eng.

  • Hi Denis,

I understand the idea that a 10k would limit the current however this would still pose a significant risk. The reason is that the gate oxides of the various transistors could be over-voltaged and breakdown. Can you add a resistor to GND to create a resistor divider and reduce the input voltage to a safe value?

  • Hi Kyle,

Unfortunately, I cannot add a voltage divider to this circuit. I have another workaround with a diode within an ECO. We will use it instead to avoid problems.

    Best Regards,

    Denis
