BQ29209-Q1: BQ29209

Part Number: BQ29209-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ29209, BQ78Z100, BQ28Z610-R1

Dear Sir,

I am using BQ29209 for a 2 Cell Series Battery application.
S-8252 Series ABLIC Inc battery protection IC.

The Schematic is attached here.

Please check if it works like this.

Please suggest an alternate part for this IC S-8252ACQ-M6T1U In Texas Battery protection IC.

Regards
Murthy

  • Hi Murthy,

It seems the circuit should work, of course check the operation of the protector device and the system as a whole.  It is recommended to turn off the cell balancing on the BQ29209 parts at low voltage, you do not want to balance down the high cell when the cells are at or below UV.  You might consider if it is suitable to switch CB_EN with a signal transistor from DO of the protector.

TI does not have an equivalent protector.  There are gauges which handle 2 cells with protection and balancing, they do require setup.  See the BQ78z100 or BQ28z610-R1, if interested check the documents and ask the relevant experts how to best set the part for protection and balance only.
