ATL431LI: How to verify the stability

Part Number: ATL431LI

Hi team,

My customer is considering to use the ATL431LI.  The FIg.13 and Fig.15 in the d/s show the Stability Boundary Conditions. The customer would like to know how to verify the stability, so could you let me know if there is a way to see the loop response characteristics, etc. using FRA?

Regards,

Yamaguchi

  • Hi Yamaguchi,

The best way to choose the proper capacitor for stability for the ATL431LI is to avoid the instability region by 1/2 a decade to a decade. the unstable region increases with temperature. If the application will run at the highest possible temperatures then you need to add a larger margin.

The best way to test stability is to test the large signal stability under the worst case temperature. Large signal stability means passing a large voltage pulse >1V on the ATL431LI. This can be accomplished by startup of the circuit. If you can start up the ATL431LI at high temperature and see no oscillation then the device is stable. Keep in mind there is variance across device to device so add margin for corner cases.
