this morning I created a new User profile on my laptop that removed the space in it; ie the old user name was "old user" and the new user is "newuser". With this change, I now no longer get the Failed to Create Data Directory error but I'm getting a "Couldn't Write Register xxx" message whenever I select a color. I was getting this before but assumed that it was related to the other issue.

While the issue with a space in the user name is still as issue, the Couldn't Write Register was corrected after double checking the ribbon cable connection to the evaluation board. At this point I'm up and running.

I had the Eval board driving my Demo board for about an hour and then powered it down and shut down my laptop. We then built up a second demo board and then reconnected the board to the J4, J7 and J11 headers. When I started the program back up I'm now getting the :Can't Write to Register" error.

Not sure if it helps, but both laptops that I'm using are running Windows 10 and are 64-bit machines.  I have not tried updating the USB2ANY firmware yet.  I will download the USB2ANY explorer software and look at that this afternoon and report the current USB2ANY firmware version.  I will also try to run the GUI on an older Windows XP laptop.

After installing the USB2Any Explorer, I was asked to change the firmware from v3.0.0.7 back to v2.8.2.0.  Should I be rolling back to the earlier version?

What is the fix?  The last word from Monet Xu is that he was able to recreate the issue and is awaiting for feedback from Support.  I'm still not able to command the LED color as I keep getting Couldn't Write Register errors.

Hi Robert, 

The first time we have had this problem. I think you can try the following steps:

1. install the GUI in the windows 10 and 32bit condition
2. please open the 'Device Manager' interface, find the communication port form 'Port(COM&LPT)' column, change the port number and make sure that the number is between 1 to 10.

I followed your procedure, but noticed that instead of assigning a COM port when the USB cable was plugged in, the PC added 2 entries under the Human Interface Devices, 1 was a HID-compliant device and the other was a USB Input Device.  I checked this on both a Windows 7 32 bit machine as well as a Windows 10 64 bit machine and get the same results.

But the most important reason is that the PC can't recognize the USB port correctly.

Yes, I started out with the Setup_LP-1.1.1_EVM file that was 87k and then after reading the thread about the newer file, I tried the Setup_LP-1.1.1_EVM file that was 86k. Both produced the same results.

I agree that the issue is probably related to the PC not properly recognizing the USB adapter.  Do you know of a way to change the device type that the PC thinks that the USB device is?

I'm not sure which IT you are referring to?  Are you stating that I should contact my company IT department or TI's IT department?  Also, since the device and GUI were developed by TI, I would think that TI is more of an expert on this product that an end user trying to develop your product.   Again, at this point it looks like the issue may be due to the fact that the 6 of the PC's that I've tried are not recognizing the USB2ANY as a virtual COM port.
