general PMBus doubt

Hi,

I was thinking and got strucked in and can not get more help on web. Hope you people clear my general doubt. I am doing a project related to PMBus which involves in controlling and monitoring a power converter. My basic doubt is how the analog values are converted to digital in power converter in case of PMBus protocol. I guess PMbus will do the job that it will covert the analog values into digital but I am not sure and I am working first time with power supplies. Please some one could explain me how the covertion is doing?

  • In the case of the UCD92xx Digital Controllers, the firmware within the part handles the conversion of a analog signal into a binary number which is then stored in a register within the device.  When a PMBus command is recieved by the device, the firmware interpretes the command and then reads or writes the appropriate information (performing any conversion between the register's stored data format and the PMBus transmision protocol).
