12Volt panel to charge 24V battery

Hi There,

I wish to design a charger which has an input of 12V (solar panel) and chargers 24V SLA battery. Can someone please point me in the right direction?

Hi Bornfree,

We do not have anything to boost from 12V solar panel to 24V SLA Battery as far as I know.

You need to design a small boost converter - the penalty is the output charge current shall be slightly less than half of what your panel can supply. You also need to consider operating the panel in the maximum power region to be able to get better efficiency.

Thank you for your help. I have never done a boost circuit. Are there any examples around? What about a step-up regulator.

Boost and step-up are one and the same thing. If you search for boost or step-up regulators and go thorough one of the datasheets and the application notes you can get a general idea.

As far as I know, you wont find a readymade solution to boost the 12V panel output to charge a 24V battery - you need to do that on your own.
