TPS53622: Decrease turn-off time

Part Number: TPS53622
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS53679

Hi team,

My customers are using TPS53622 and SN1701022.

They found a problem that VR turn-off time is too long (200~300ms), even though they add the discharging resistor 100ohm parallel with the load.

Is there any method to decrease the turn-off time from VR side? Does our VR have the internal discharge circuit to discharge output caps?

  • There is no passive discharge device inside the controller for this, and it does not support soft-off.

There are a couple of things you could do:

1- If PMBus controls the output, command the output voltage low through PMBus, and it will go down at the VOUT TRANSITION RATE

2- Although it's not mentioned in the datasheet, TPS53622 also supports the VCCIO UV Fault, like its parent device TPS53679.

Using MFR_SPECIFIC_00, program the pin 13 to be a VCCIO monitor pin, and add a pull-up to VREF externally. Then, pulling pin 13 low, will cause the VR to ramp down the output voltage at the SR-Slow rate (1/4 of VOUT TRANSITION RATE). Just note that the AVR_EN pin will be shared now, and disable takes priority over VCCIO fault,
