BQ24610: Can the charge safety timer be set for greater than 10 hour charge time?

Part Number: BQ24610

We're wondering if the safety timer for this device can be set for a value higher than 10 hours with the use of capacitor values larger than 0.11uF. If so, what is the limit for the overall safety timer?

Thank you

  • Hello,

The maximum supported safety timer upper value is 10 hours as specified in the datasheet.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Mike,

What exactly is the reasoning behind this limitation? All I'm seeing in the datasheet is that the 1-10 hour range is simply "verified by design", which to me indicates that these ranges aren't necessarily based on testing or physical limitations. Due to other requirements in our system, we may not be able to charge in less than 10 hours, but would still like to have the added protection of a charge safety timer if possible.

    Thank you

  • Hello,

As stated previously, the maximum supported safety timer setting is for 10 hours. At the time the part was released, most customers could charge within 10 hours. Some of our parts offer the ability to count the 10 hour clock at half the rate if you are in thermal, input voltage, or input current regulation.

What type of features are you looking for in a charger? I can point you in the right direction.

    Thanks,

    Mike Emanuel
