Can the charging current be set by temperature?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24610

Hi

I'm looking for solutions that can set charging current by temperature.

For example

-5deg=>10A / 0deg=>20A / 10deg=>50A

Let me know if you have a solution available.

Thanks

  • Hi David,

    The TI battery charge group does not have charger reference designs up to 50A.  Other customers have used the BQ24610 family, with gate drivers to multiple FETs in parallel, to drive 20A so 50A might be possible.  You would need a thermistor to monitor the temp (of the battery?) and set a comparators tied to reference voltages.  The comparators would then drive FETs with series resistors that change the resistance at the ISET pin, which changes the charge current.
