BQ25619: TS pin supplied by REGN

Part Number: BQ25619

Hello,

In setting up the schematic for the BQ25619 we had the below question on the impacts of powering TS via REGN.

REGN is only up when a VBUS input is supplied to the charger so that would mean that the TS pin is non-operation when VBUS is absent. Does this mean there is no thermal monitoring of the battery when not charging?

Could we use a different pull up rail to allow for always on thermal monitoring?

Thanks,
Nick

  • Hello Nick,

The temperature only needs to be read during the chargers operation in boost or buck mode. The conditions for REGN to be active are in the datahseet section 8.3.3.1 Power Up REGN LDO.

If you need to monitor the battery closer than the charger, like during idle periods, I would recommend a gauge or monitor to be used.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller
