BQ25060EVM: Behavior of charging current waveform

Part Number: BQ25060EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25060

Dear TI Team

When checking the operation with BQ25606EVM, an unexpected phenomenon was confirmed.
Could you tell me about the following questions?
1. During charging, the charging current repeats on and off as shown in the waveform below. Is this the expected operation?
2. If the above phenomenon is as expected, is there a way to avoid this phenomenon?
* It also occurred with different types of batteries.
* This on / off seems to occur when the battery voltage crosses Vsys_min.

■ Measurement waveform
A: Waveform from the start of charging until the phenomenon occurs
B: Waveform with the red dotted line frame in the left figure enlarged
C: Waveform that is a further enlargement of the left figure

■ Measurement conditions
・ Vin = 5V
・ Ichg = 2.4A
・ Battery Capacity = 3390mAh
・ No load

  • Hi Y. Ottey,

I see that you say that VIN is 5V but I can see on the picture there is a power supply showing 3.079V, is this actually supply 5V or 3.079V?

I also see that the supposed charge current is 2.4A. The BQ25060 is only specified for 1A charging. Does this occur at lower charge currents?
