TPS23523: Feature questions

Part Number: TPS23523

Hello,

My customer has some questions about TPS23523 as follows.
Please respond.

Q1:
My customer’ understanding about the two current limits (CL1, CL2) is as follows. Is his understanding correct?
- During startup (under inrush current control), if Vds is higher than VDS,SW, the limit is imposed by CL2. If Vds is lower than VDS,SW, the limit is imposed by CL1. However, the CL1 threshold is VSNS,FST, and the CL2 threshold is VSNS,FST2.
- During operation (FET-on state), if Vds is higher than VDS,SW, the limit is imposed by CL2. If VDS is lower than VDS,SW, the limit is imposed by CL1.
However, the CL1 threshold is VSNS,CL1, and the CL2 threshold is VSNS,CL2
- Basically, since VSNS,FST>VSNS,CL1 and VSNS,FST2>VSNS,CL2, the inrush current threshold at start-up is always higher than the normal operating current threshold (it cannot be lower).

Q2:
TPS23523 does not have power limiting capabilities?

Best regards,

K.Hirano

  • Hi Hirano,

TPS23523 does not has power limiting feature. It has dual current limit which switches based on the Vds threshold which is programmable.

The current limit threshold during startup is VSNS,CL2 i.e., 3mV. So, we have to limit the inrush current to below 3mV/Rsns using Css capacitor.

Please use design calculator with your system inputs to calculate the parameter values.
