Hello,
My customer is designing their product using the LM5068-2 to control the inrush current, and has some questions as follows.
Q1:
Though the current limit value can be set according to the RS resistance value, the current limit threshold is the same for both during start-up (inrush current control) and during operation (FET-on state)?
Q2:
Is it correct to understand that if the current limit is reached during operation, LM5067-1 will be off and LM5067-2 and will retry to startup?
Q3:
During normal operation after startup, not only the current limit but also the power limit works?
Q4:
They are also considering LM5067-2 instead of LM5068-2. But they are not sure which is better for their app. Does TI have any materials that will help them understand the differences between LM5067-2 and LM5068-2?
Q5:
Major differences between LM5067-2 and LM5068-2 are as follows?
- The LM5067 has power control (Power Limit) → for this reason, the PWR and out terminals have been added
- Package size differences (LM5068:VSSOP-8 to LM5067:VSSOP-10 or SOIC-14)
- Different input range (LM5068:-10V to -90V to LM5067:-10V to -80V). However, the maximum rating is -100V
There are other minor differences such as threshold values, but they think other major features are the same. However if there are any other notable differences, please let them know.
Q6:
At LM5068, a capacitor is connected to the gate terminal to regulate inrush current for inrush current suppression.
Is it possible to connect a capacitor to the gate terminal to regulate inrush current at the LM5067 too?
Or should there be no external capacitor connected to the gate terminal not to conflict with the internal power limits at LM5067?
