BQ76930: bq76930 report short circuit error

Part Number: BQ76930

hi,

We are using two bq76930 to design a board to manage a 13S battery. When setting the cell voltage to 2300mV, the upper bq76930 sysstat register SCD bit will be set. But there is no discharge current at all. We try to clear it by it will be set again. We try to remove P- cable, and it keeps the same.

According to the design, the SRP and SRN of that bq76930 are connected to GND.

Do you have any clue about this?

  • Hi David,

The current detection circuitry is powered by the REGOUT regulator.  If REGSRC is lost during operation or REGOUT shorted it is common for an OCD or SCD fault to register when the voltage is restored. If you are using a dropping FET referenced to VC5X for the top device you won't have much voltage available on REGSRC at low cell voltage.  Check the voltage and see if it is being modulated by communication or other operation and may be causing dropout of REGOUT, you will likely need to look at it with an oscilloscope.

You might see the REGSRC section in www.ti.com/lit/slua749
