USB serial port installation

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320VC5505

hi the community,

I'am using an EZDSP TMS320VC5505 in an optical measurement equipment. On the equipment we use the second port of the FTDI 2232 chips to comminucate with a pc through an usb serial port.

So we develop a DSP application using Code composer studio and the debugger works fine through the jtag using the first serial line of the FT2232. We develop an application on the pc side interfacing the instrument using the second serial line of the FT2232.

We develop on a sony VAIO PC platform running windows7. We installed drivers from FTDI to get both serial lines working together. And for a while everything was working fine.

Few days ago, we had a problem with the usb serial port driver. Very difficult to make a diagnostic of the problem so we tried to reinstall the drivers but we always get a code 39 error after the installation completes? I have uninstalled the drivers : usb serial converter and usb serial port and afterward i tried reinstalling the drivers but i always get the same problem.

If somebody had a good idea maybe it could help me.

  • Hi Manu,

    Welcome to the community.

I understand that you are using port B of the FTDI 2232 chip as a UART with Virtual Comm Port (VCP) drivers on the PC. Is that correct? Which version of the FTDI 2232 are you using?

When exactly do you get the error code 39? Is it coming from the driver installer software, code composer, or something else?

Are you still able to connect in code composer? How does the device manager look when the USB is plugged in? It should look something like this.

Here are some resources available to help you debug this problem:

If your problem persists, we can get help from the Development Tools E2E Support Community.

    Hope this helps,

  • Hi Mark,

indeed we use port  B of the FT2232/D chip on the EZDSP board.

This is the story of what I do to reinstall.

First I remove the drivers from the device manager.

Then I plug the EZDSP in a USB connector. The pc tries to find drivers over internet but no drivers were found and i get the dialog box here under

I closed this window than i went in the device manager and i get this dialog :

I selected first Texas Instruments Inc.XDS100 Ver 1.0 device and I requested an update of the driver ( a manual update so i can select the new driver file). I selected the driver from a directory in which i downloaded latest version of the FTDI drivers ( dialog here under ). FTDIBUS was first selected.

The update program asked me the driver to install from a list here under. I selected "USB Serial Converter" and tell the program to go on.

The result of this first device installation is ok as you can see in the dialog here under.

The dev ice manager looks like dialog here under

After that, I selected second Texas Instruments Inc.XDS100 Ver 1.0 device in the device manager list of devices and I requested an update of the driver ( a manual update so i can select the new driver file). I selected the driver from same directory as previously shown. This time i selected "ftdiport"

Once again, the update program asked me the driver to install from a list here under. I selected "USB Serial Port" and tell the program to go on.

And here we got our 39 code error. The message is Windows can not load the peripheral driver for this material. The driver is maybe damaged or missing ( code 39 ). By the way excuse me for the french screen dumps and also for my poor english.

And the device manager lokks like this :

At this point Code composer studio is again working fine; and i can connect to the target, download programs, debug ... But the USB serial Port is unusable. However, last week, everything was working fine

    Please help me.

By the way is there a DPINST.EXE 64 bits program for Windows7 with the driver package adapted for the EZDSP usb stick?

Any suggestion will be very welcome, of course.

    Regards,

    Manu
